The wheelchair service assesses users for the provision of wheeled mobility equipment for those with long term mobility needs, both powered and manual. The service is provided by Millbrook Healthcare.

The Hampshire wheelchair service will provide wheelchairs to all patients registered with a GP within the boundaries of NHS Portsmouth. Assessment for children will be undertaken in family-friendly, child-orientated facilities by staff specially trained in the assessment of children with requirements for wheelchairs and seating.
What the organisation provides - types of interventions and support
The wheelchair service supplies; transit wheelchairs, self-propelling wheelchairs, electrically powered indoor/outdoor (EPIOC) wheelchairs, buggies, voucher scheme, special seating and pressure relieving cushions. The service has an in-house repair service for NHS wheelchair which will be delivered, repaired and maintained free of charge.
Applicants must have a permanent long term mobility need and be from 30 months upwards to be eligible. All applications should be made on the official wheelchair referral form, completed by an appropriate qualified professional; the referrals are then screened by trained therapy staff at the wheelchair service.

The wheelchair service should maintain people living independently in the community, prevent ill health, and return to work and improve education options.
How can this service be accessed?
The service is available to all patients with a long term mobility and need to be registered with a GP in Portsmouth. In the first instance applicants should contact their GP or other qualified professional who will complete a referral form which will be passed to Millbrook Healthcare. Millbrook Healthcare will acknowledge the referral within 5 days and an appointment for assessment will be arranged.
